這一篇是我在n詞庫所整理出來的文章，因為n詞庫不再繼續營運，可能會將所有使用者的資料予以刪除，由於沒有提供備份功能，所以我只好先將價值比較高的文章轉貼回來。

如何用英語稱呼學長、學弟、學姊、學妹這一篇從2009年9月開始至今已有10000人次瀏覽，這都要感謝先進們所提供的資料，我才能進一步整理出來解除我們的疑惑。

總共在網路上找了三篇文章，分別統整如下：

如何用英語稱呼學長、學弟、學姊、學妹？

中文的學長、姊，學弟、妹稱呼，但是在英文中沒有如此的說法，一般人多以 junior 及 senior 這兩個字來代替，但是認知和用法可能有錯誤。

首先要先了解一下學制。美國的中小學學制共分十二個年級(Grade1 ~ Grade12)，而高中則包含最後四個年級（九至十二年級）。美國高中九年級被稱為(Freshman)，十年級(Sophomore)、十一年級(Junior)與十二年級(Senior)。美國大學學制四年就和中學九年級到十二年級一樣為大一(Freshman)、大二(Sophomore)、大三(Junior)及大四(Senior)。

由英英字典的解釋說明，我們可以明白這兩個字的字義：

• junior:
  • (adj.) a person with lower in standing or rank
  • (noun) a student in the next-to-the-last year before graduating from an educational institution
• senior:
  • (adj.) a person with higher standing or rank
  • (noun) a student in the year preceding graduation from a school of secondary or higher level

所以這個兩個單字用來說明學長、姊，學弟、妹時，可以為學長(senior brother)、學姊(senior sister)、學弟(junior brother)、學妹(junior sister)，但恐在語意上會和兄、姊、弟、妹的意義混淆，最好加上in the school or in the class等副詞片語加以說明。

• She is my senior sister. (她是你姊? 她是我你姊?)【X】
• She is my senior sister in the school. (語意清楚)【O】

此外，也有人會用 senior student (高年級學生)和 junior student (低年級學生) 表示，雖然語意清楚，但只能表示其在群體內部的關係，較不貼切顧中文的意義。用法要注意冠詞和所有代名詞的使用，不然會弄笑話哦！

• He is a junior student in the tennis team.【O】
• He is my junior student in the tennis team. (你是老師嗎?)【X】

另外很多人不知道還有兩個單字就是 underclassman 和 upperclassman，也可以拿來使用。

• upperclassman: a student in the junior or senior class in a high school or college
• underclassman: a student in the freshman or sophomore class in a high school or college

這兩個單字沒有兩性之分，男女都可以使用。

• Jaffnifer is my underclassman in college baketball team.
• Dallen and Warren were her classmen in high school.

如何用英語介紹學長弟、學姊妹？

聽朋友講過好像美國大學沒有所謂的學長或學弟制度，大多都是說schoolmate。
如果要解釋的話，用你所學過的單字就可以了，senior學長姐，junior學弟妹。

We should call someone senior or junior instead of calling schoolmates in Taiwan.

In America, you guys just say hello to each other.. Hi, dude. Hello. You can take your senior or junior as your friends. But in Taiwan, there comes a system about paying respect for your senior, and taking care of your junior.

While seeing your senior , you should say “Hello, senior." Do not say something unrespectful, such as hi dude. While seeing your junior, you should say something like, how’s your fresh life?. Could you adapt to the enviroment?

For example: I am a senior and my student number is 15. Then if all my juniors which student numbers are 15 have problems, they will ask me for a help. In addition, we also have a “family reunion" once or twice a year.

In the family reunior, seniors could hold the chance to know more about the the freshman. The sophomore gotta pay the bill for the freshman.

國外並沒有學長、學姊、學弟、學妹之分！

國內有人習慣以senior (or senior student)和 junior (or junior student) 來表示學長/姊、學弟/妹。

然而 senior指高年級學生是英式英語的用法，在美式英語中則是指最高年級的學生，或大學的四年級生，而junior也是指大學或高中三年級的學生，這和普遍於國內校園中的用語，在意義是有些差距，若一體適用會有點不倫不類的感覺。

文鶴出版有限公司於81年11月初版，由傅修榮，Elanine Banks合著的「校園美語應用手冊」第336頁，提供下面的用法，個人認為比較適合於國內的情況。

• 學長/姊：upperclassmen
• 學弟/妹：underclassmen

無論性別，一律稱之！

另外補充：

• 男校友一詞的單數型為 alumnus，複數型則為 alumni。
• 女校友一詞的單數型為 alumna，複數型則為 alumnae。

校友常以複數型出現，一般使用 alumni，若男女同校者，此時可包括女性。

在英式英語中，校友通常用 old boy (old girl)反而不用 alumnus (alumna)。

校友會：

• 【美】alumni association
• 【英】old boy’s association

同學：

• schoolmate為同校同學
• classmate為同班同學

以上三篇的結論就是～在台灣稱呼學長姊使用senior，稱呼學弟妹就使用junior。
